Professor Jena Martin Presents at University of Ottawa in Business and Human Rights Speakers Series

West Virginia University College of Law professor Jena Martin spoke at the University of Ottawa on October 30, 2023. Professor Martin's talk was hosted by the university's Human Rights Research and Education Centre as part of the Gordon F. Henderson Chair Business & Human Rights Speaker Series. The title was "Environmental, social, goverance v. business and human rights frameworks: A taxonomy."

Professor Jena Martin Speaks at the University of the West Indies, MonaLaw

On March 9, 2023 West Virginia University College of Law professor Jena Martin delivered a lecture at the University of the West Indies, MonaLaw in Mona, Jamaica. Professor Martin's lecture was titled "Human Rights Law and Business: Corporate Criminality in the Caribbean? How to Detect Human Rights Abuses." The lecture was delivered to an in-person audience and streamed live via zoom.

Professor Jena Martin Publishes Book Chapter in The UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights

West Virginia University College of Law professor Jena Martin will publish a chapter in a forthcoming volume from Edward Elgar Publishing, The UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. Professor Martin authored "Guiding Principle 8: Ensuring Policy Coherence". The book is available for pre-order now and will be available in March 2023.

Professor Jena Martin Speaks at UN Forum on Business and Human Rights

West Virginia College of Law professor Jena Martin recently spoke at the United Nations 10th Annual Forum on Business and Human Rights. The Forum was held virtually, November 29 to December 1, 2021. Professor Martin spoke in a session titled "Confronting racism: using the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights to support transformative action". Her remarks centered on a joint project with Tara Van Ho of the University of Essex and Erika George of the University of Utah.  A recording of the session is now available: https://media.un.org/asset/k1w/k1w4gj52rf

The project culminated in a publication: Reckoning: A Dialogue About Racism, Antiracists, and Business & Human Rights .  The paper was published in Vol. 30 of The Washington International Law Journal. 

Professor Jena Martin Speaker in the University of Essex Human Rights Speaker Series

West Virginia University College of Law professor Jena Martin was featured as a speaker in the University of Essex Human Rights Speaker series on Wednesday, November 24, 2021. The series is hosted by the University of Essex Human Rights Centre and the Essex Armed Conflict and Crisis Hub. Professor Martin's talk, titled "Racism and Business & Human Rights" was given with co-authors Erika George and Tara Van Ho. Professors Martin and George, and Dr. Van Ho published Reckoning: A Dialogue about Racism, AntiRacists, and Business & Human Rights in volume 30 of the Washington International Law Journal earlier this year.
