Professor Nicole McConlogue Speaks on Panel Hosted by University of Baltimore Law, The Surveillance State: Big Data as Big Brother

On March 30, 2022, West Virginia University College of Law professor Nicole McConlogue spoke on a panel, The Surveillance State: Big Data as Big Brother. The program was hosted by the University of Baltimore School of Law as part of the UB Law in Focus Discussion Series. Professor McConolgue was joined by other experts in the field including Aiha Nguyen of the Labor Futures at Data & Society Research Institute and Univeristy of Baltimore Law Professor Michele Gilman. The discussion was moderated by University of Baltimroe Law Professor Colin Starger.

Professor Nicole McConlogue's Latest Scholarship, Discrimination on Wheels, Reviewed on Jotwell

West Virginia University College of Law professor and clinic director Nicole McConlogue's latest scholarship, Discrimination on Wheels: How Big Data Uses License Plate Surveillance to Put the Brakes on Disadvantaged Drivers, was recently featured by Jotwell, in its Technology Law section. The review, Automated Algorithmic Decision-Making Systems and ALPRs in Consumer Lending Transactions, was written by Stacy-Ann Elvy and praised Professor McConlogue's work as and "important contribution to scholarship in the consumer and technology law fields by exposing the relationship between ALPR technology and automated algorithmic decision-making in the automobile lending industry".

Professor McConlogue's article is forthcoming in volume 18 of the Stanford Journal of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties.

Professor Amy Cyphert Cited by United States District Court, D. New Mexico in U.S. v. Gonzales

West Virginia University College of Law professor Amy Cyphert was recently cited by the United States District Court for New Mexico. The Court cited Professor Cyphert's article, Reprogramming Recidivism: The First Step Act and Algorithmic Prediction of Risk , 51 Seton Hall L. Rev. 331 (2020) for its discussion of the First Step Act and PATTERN in U.S. v. Gonzales.
