Professor Sean Tu Publishes in the Latest issue of Landslide

West Virginia College of Law professor  S. Sean Tu recently published an article in the latest issue of Landslide, a magazine published by the American Bar Association Section of Intellectual Property Law. The article is titled "Gender Inequality in Pharmaceutical Patent Law" and appears in the March/April 2023 issue. Tess Hardesty, a student at the College of Law co-authored the work.

West Virginia University College of Law professor Sean Tu recently co-authored a new article in volume 42, issue 3 of Health Affairs. The article is titled "Patent Challenges And Litigation On Inhalers For Asthma And COPD." Professor Tu's co-authors are Sanjay Reddy, Georgetown University, Reed F. Beall, University of Calgary, Aaron S. Kesselheim, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard University, and William B. Feldman Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard University.

Professor Sean Tu Publishes New Article on Patenting Inhaler Devices in Chest, Journal of the American College of Chest Physicians

West Virginia College of Law professor S. Sean Tu recently published new scholarship in Chest, the journal of the American College of Chest Physicians. The article is titled "Patenting strategies on inhaler delivery devices." Professor Tu co-authored the article with Brandon J. Demkowicz, Aaron S. Kesselheim, M.D., J.D., M.P.H. and William B. Feldman, M.D., D.Phil., M.P.H., colleagues at the Program On Regulation, Therapeutics, And Law (PORTAL) at Harvard Medical School, and Michael A. Carrier, J.D. of Rutgers Law School.  

The article pre-print was published online on February 25, 2023 and will subsequently appear in volume 163 of the journal later in 2023.

Professor Sean Tu Awarded Research Grant by National Institute for Health Care Management

West Virginia Unviversity College of Law Professor Sean Tu will receive a research grant from the National Institute of Health Care Management in 2023-2024. NIHCM awards grants to those who initiate work that will "advance evidence on a broad range of factors that contribute to rising health care costs and ongoing health care disparities."

Professor Tu's project is called "Improving Competitive Drug Markets by Reviewing Patents." He will be joined on the project by Aaron S. Kesselheim of Harvard University and Victor van de Wiele of the University of Cambridge.

Professor Sean Tu Interviewed by MedPage Today

West Virginia University College of Law Professor Sean Tu was recently interviewed by MedPage Today. In the interview, Professor Tu discusses the methods that pharmaceutical companies use to monopolize the prescription drug market such as evergreening, patent thicketing, and product topping.  The interview was published online on February 3, 2023.

Professor Tu has recently published on the topic in the New England Journal of Medicine: A “Method of Use” to Prevent Generic and Biosimilar Market Entry. This article was published online by the journal on January 25, 2023 in print in volume 388.
