Professor Jena Martin Presents at Global Business and Human Rights Research Workshop

West Virginia University College of Law professor Jena Martin presented research at the Global Business and Human Rights Research Workshop on November 29, 2018 in Geneva, Switzerland. The workshop was organized by the BHRights Initiative for Interdisciplinary Research and Teaching on Business and Human Rights .

Professor Martin presented research titled "Creating a Space to Assess: Examining Community Engagement in Multi-Stakeholder Initiatives related to a Business and Human Rights Framework".

From the abstract:

Multi-Stakeholder Initiatives are expanding in popularity; often times used as a way to show businesses involvement in larger human rights related issues. However, it seems as if the communities that MSIs are designed to assist (i.e., victims of trafficking or consumers whose data is used without their knowledge and consent) are frequently not involved in either the design or the implementation of these initiatives. The research question that this paper seeks to examine is to determine, through empirical analysis, how direct community participation can impact the design and implementation of MSIs.
